I've had Garmins for years. The Forerunner does more, sure, but I realized I only used 10% of its features. The 185C does the parts I actually use - heart rate, sleep, GPS-tagged outdoor runs, calls. Battery comparable. Watch is lighter and looks better in non-running settings. Glad I switched.
The silver one in the photos caught me. In person it doesn't disappoint - more of a polished steel look than the photos suggest. Wears under a cuff fine. Sensors are accurate, AMOLED is crisp in any light, magnetic charger snaps on properly. Only thing I'd change is the band material - silicone is fine but I'd buy a leather option in a heartbeat.
Photos don't do the brushed aluminum bezel justice. In person it has a subtle gradient where the brushing catches light. Picked the gun metal - looks darker and more refined than I expected. The reserve process was straightforward, shipped within a week of confirmation. Pairing took maybe 30 seconds.
Had the square 54CJ for a couple months and was happy with it. Reserved this one because I prefer the look of a round dial. AMOLED is a real upgrade - colors pop, always-on is readable in sunlight. The silver finish is more brushed than polished, which I like. Worth the $50.
The 185C is noticeably heavier than the square models - about 36g vs 32g. At first I thought I'd find it annoying but actually it feels more substantial on the wrist, less like a fitness band and more like a watch. One point off because always-on display does eat the battery faster than they advertise - I'm getting 5 days, not 7.
AMOLED display is genuinely beautiful. Battery is honest at about 6 days for me with always-on off. My three stars are because the software still feels like a 1.0 - some animations stutter, occasionally a notification doesn't come through, app sync can be slow. It'll get better with updates I'm sure, but at launch it's a bit rough.
